费慰梅，美国汉学家，致力于中国艺术和建筑的研究，她是美国汉学大师费正清的夫人，也是梁思成和林徽因夫妇一生的挚友。上个世纪二十年代，哈佛女子学院课堂上的一张武梁祠拓片，深深地吸引了年轻的费慰梅，为她打开了一扇进入东方艺术殿堂的大门。
1932年，费慰梅从大洋彼岸的哈佛来到中国，几经辗转，她徒步到达山东一处偏僻的乡村，只为一睹让她为之心醉的古老东方文明的遗迹——武梁祠。
费慰梅在学术问题上的独特创建，启迪了众多后世学者，著名艺术史家巫鸿，正是建立在她的理论基础上，完成了里程碑意义的著作《武梁祠》。
2002年4月，距费慰梅前往武梁祠整整六十八年后，她在波士顿哈佛的家中辞世，享年92岁。临终前，她将从中国带回的那些珍贵资料捐赠给了哈佛大学，这批藏品里包括她珍藏的武梁祠拓片、亲手绘制的线稿图，以及那些带来启示的剪贴画片。

Wilma Canon Fairbank, a renowned American sinologist, dedicated herself to the study of Chinese art and architecture. She was the wife of the distinguished American sinologist John King Fairbank and a close friend of the lifelong companions Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin. In the 1920s, a piece of ink rubbing from the Wuliang Shrine captivated the young Wilma in the classroom of Radcliffe College of Harvard University, opening the doors to Eastern art for her.
In 1932, she journeyed from Harvard University across the ocean to China. After various travels, she reached a remote village in Shandong, solely to witness the remnants of ancient Eastern civilization that had enchanted her—the Wuliang Shrine. Her unique contributions to academic inquiries inspired numerous future scholars, and the renowned art historian Wu Hong, in particular, built upon her theoretical foundation to produce the groundbreaking work Wuliang Shrine.
In April 2002, sixty-eight years after Wilma’s visit to the Wuliang Shrine, she passed away at the age of 92 in her home in Boston, near Harvard. Before her death, she donated the precious collections she had brought back from China to Harvard University. These collections included rubbings from the Wuliang Shrine, hand-drawn line sketches, and the collage pieces that had inspired her.
