在爵士吉他演奏中，和弦可能是最为重要的一个学习课题。每一位爵士吉他手都会花大量的时间学习不同的和弦，并且会永无止境地探索自己的和弦以及更多应用的可能性。

Chordknowledge is one of the most important studies in jazz guitar playing. As ajazz guitar player, we spend a lot of time learning different voicings and thepossibilities are endless.

对吉他手来说，由于乐器构造的特殊性，不能像钢琴手一样演奏过于密集的和弦，譬如像连续三度叠加的七和弦。Drop 2和Drop 3 以更为舒适的演奏方式呈现在吉他上，因此成了吉他手们最常用的两种和弦排列（Chord Voicing）。当然还有Drop 2 and3以及Drop 2 and 4、四度和弦等各种排列。

Due to thestructure of the guitar, close voicing chords are really hard to play on theguitar. For example, 4-way-close voicing for Cmaj7 chord. However, the drop 2 anddrop 3 voicings are more guitar friendly. Therefore, they are favored by guitarplayers. Other than that, there are also Drop 2+3, Drop 2+4 and quartalvoicings.

在爵士乐中，七和弦是常见的和弦，其中更以大七（Major7）、属七（Dominant 7）、小七（Minor 7）、半减七（HalfDiminished 7）以及减七（Diminished 7）最为常见。熟练掌握以上几种性质的七和弦足以弹奏绝大多数的Jazz Standards，也就是常说的传统爵士乐标准曲目。因为在爵士乐中随处可见各种2 – 5 – 1 的和弦进行，以上几种和弦包括了大调2 – 5 – 1进行(iimin7 – V7 – Imaj7)以及小调2 – 5 – 1进行（iim7b5 –V7 – im7）。另外减七和弦也常作为属和弦的功能出现在和声进行当中，今后会为大家讲到。

There are five mostcommonly used seventh chords in jazz. Major 7th chord, dominant 7thchord, minor 7th chord, half diminished 7th chord andfully diminished 7th chord. We can use these chords to play most ofthe jazz standards. There are two kinds of 251 chord progressions, major andminor 251. The chord quality of the major 251 is minor 7th, dominant7th and major 7th chord, whereas the minor 251 is halfdiminished 7th, dominant 7th and minor 7threspectively. Moreover, sometimes we’d also use diminished 7thchord, and I’ll talk about it in future lessons.

Here are fivebasic seventh chord voicings using the drop 2 and drop 3 voicing.

以上各种和弦转12个调练习是绝对有必要的，每练习一个和弦需要熟记和弦固定音名以及清楚每个和弦音对应当前和弦的级数。由于乐器的特殊性，在吉他上一个音可以出现在很多不同的位置，因此对于吉他这门乐器来说这样的要求相对难一些，希望大家能通过这样的练习学习到不同的和弦，此外，也能更加熟悉自己的乐器。今后有机会还会和大家分享这些和弦的应用与一些衍生出的变化。

In order tofamiliarize yourself with all the chord shapes, it’s absolutely NECESSARY to practice thesechord in all twelve keys. You should be able to memorize each note names of thechord and the relative pitch of each note within the chord. Due to thestructure of guitar, a note can be played at different areas of the neck,therefore, there might be more than one shape for each chord. That’s one of thechallenges of playing chords on the guitar. I hope you can discover somedifferent chord shapes on your own and I’ll talk about the variation of thesebasic chord types in future lessons.
