Carbon-free heating
On Nov 9, the urban area of Haiyang, Shandong province,
started using heat produced by a nuclear power plant It is the
first Chinese city to have carbon-free heating, State Power
Investment Corp said. Because of recent cold weather, the new
heating started six days ahead of the planned four-month winter heating season. As China’s first nuclear heating project, it
provides clean energy to more than 200,000 people in Haiyang. It replaces 12 coal-fired boilers and will cut carbon dioxide
emissions by 180,000 tons (吨) every heating season, reported
China Daily.
