参观画展是不少人的闲暇活动，流连在世界名画之中，感受色彩与线条带来的冲击，仿佛能穿越时空与百年前的艺术巨匠对话。
但你或许未曾料到，画展上的画作竟然能挂反！近日，艺术史专家发现，抽象派大师皮特·蒙德里安（Piet Mondrian）的一幅著名画作自首展以来，被颠倒展出了整整77年！
One of Piet Mondrian’s iconic Modernist paintings may have been hanging upside down for 77 years, according to research from an art historian.

今年是蒙德里安诞辰150周年，为纪念这位20世纪的伟大艺术家，一场名为“蒙德里安的进化（Mondrian Evolution）”的展览在德国杜塞尔多夫北莱茵-威斯特法伦艺术品收藏馆（Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen）举办。
“倒挂”乌龙事件就发生在展览的筹备期间，主角是《纽约城一号》（New York City I），蒙德里安的著名画作之一。

蒙德里安从欧洲移居纽约后，于1941年和1942年创作了一系列“纽约城”画作，《纽约城一号》由经典的原色和几何线条组成，1945年，该画首展于纽约现代艺术博物馆（New York’s Museum of Modern Art）。
The painting, called New York City I,features Mondrian’s classic primary color palette and striking geometric lines. The Dutch artist made a series of “New York City” paintings in 1941 and 1942 after relocating to the city from Europe. It was first exhibited at New York’s Museum of Modern Art in 1945.

根据杜塞尔多夫北莱茵-威斯特法伦艺术品收藏馆的图录，《纽约城一号》一直以来的悬挂方式是彩色加粗线条在底部。该馆于1980年获得了这幅画作。
New York City Ihas long been shown with the thickest cluster of lines at the bottom of the frame, according to an exhibition catalog from the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, the German gallery that acquired the painting in1980.
然而，这一长达77年的悬挂方式在最近却得到了质疑。
策展人、艺术史学家苏珊娜·梅耶-布瑟（Susanne Meyer-Büser）说：“加粗的网格线条应该在顶部，就像黑压压的上空一般。当我将这一疑问告诉其他策展人时，他们也意识到了。我百分之百肯定这幅画被颠倒了。”
“The thickening of the grid should be at the top, like a dark sky,”said curator and art historian Susanne Meyer-Büser. “Once I pointed it out to the other curators, we realised it was very obvious. I am 100% certain the picture is the wrong way around.”

同时，不少证据也说明，梅耶-布瑟的想法或许是正确的。
1944年的杂志《城镇与乡村》（Town and Country）刊登了一张画家本人工作室的照片，照片中可以看到，其画架上的《纽约城一号》与如今悬挂的《纽约城一号》相比，颠倒了180度。同时，与《纽约城一号》十分相似的另一幅同名《纽约城》（New York City）中，粗网格线条也是在顶端，而非底部。
A photo of the artist’s studio published in a 1944 issue of Town and Country shows the painting still on its easel, rotated 180 degrees from the way it has been hanging ever since. And in another Mondrian painting—New York City, which is very similar to New York City I—the grid lines thicken at the top of the piece, rather than at the bottom.
蒙德里安认为这件作品不够完整而且没有署名，所以策展人们也无法根据署名判断画作的正确挂法。
Mondrian considered the work incomplete and didn’t sign it, which meant that curators weren’t able to use a signature to orient the painting.
如今，博物馆也无从得知确切的答案，因为蒙德里安本人早已在1944年离世了。

而画展工作人员目前透露，他们并不打算变动目前的悬挂方式。
因为将画作倒放极有可能损害画作本身。而且如今，悬挂方式之谜也成为了该画独一无二的组成部分。
Turning it may risk damaging it — and the orientation confusion is now a unique part of the history of the object.
梅耶-布瑟说：“画作的胶带已经非常松散了，仅由一根线挂着。如果强制将其翻转过来，重力会将画作拉到另外一个方向。它现在就是这幅画的一部分。”
“The adhesive tapes are already extremely loose and hanging by a thread,”said Meyer-Büser. “If you were to turn it upside down now, gravity would pull it into another direction. And it’s now part of the work’s story.”
皮特·蒙德里安是一位荷兰画家，他是荷兰抽象艺术运动“风格派”（De Stijl, The Style）的主要人物之一。蒙德里安运用直线、直角、原色以及黑、白、灰三色进行创作。他的作品以纯粹的造型达到和谐，展现创作者的精神信仰。
