About 70% of foreign-invested companies upbeat about China’s market potential
More foreign-invested companies surveyed by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) in the fourth quarter of 2023 said they were satisfied with China’s business environment, Yang Fan, spokesperson for the CCPIT, said at a press briefing on Tuesday.
In terms of market expectations, nearly 70 percent of foreign enterprises are positive about China’s market performance over the next five years, up 1.8 percentage points compared with the previous quarter, Yang said.
More than 90 percent of foreign enterprises said that they believe China’s market attractiveness will continue to increase or remain at the current levels, the official said.
In July 2023, China has issued a 24-point guidelines designated to improve the climate for foreign investment and attract more overseas capital.
In 2023, actual foreign direct investment hit more than 1.13 trillion yuan ($160 billion), down 8 percent year-on-year. However, the value remains at a high level – the third highest in recent years, data from the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) showed.
In addition, the structure of foreign investment in China continues to improve, with FDI into the country’s high-tech sector accounting for 37.4 percent of the total foreign investment in 2023, up 1.3 percentage points compared with the previous year, which hit a new record high.
The FDI from developed countries including Canada, the UK and France reposted notable increase, official data showed.

IMF upgrades 2024 global growth forecast to 3.1%
The International Monetary Fund on Tuesday nudged its global growth forecast higher, citing the unexpected strength of the U.S. economy and fiscal support measures in China.
It now sees global growth in 2024 at 3.1%, up 0.2 percentage point from its prior October projection, followed by 3.2% expansion in 2025.
Large emerging market economies including Brazil, India and Russia have also performed better than previously thought.
The IMF believes there is now a reduced likelihood of a so-called hard landing, an economic contraction following a period of strong growth, despite new risks from commodity price spikes and supply chain issues due to geopolitical volatility in the Middle East.
It forecasts growth this year of 2.1% in the U.S., 0.9% in both the euro zone and Japan, and 0.6% in the United Kingdom.
3.1%! IMF上调2024年全球增长预测

Hainan Airlines opens Haikou-Abu Dhabi service
Flight HU763 departed from Haikou Meilan International Airport in Haikou City, south China’s Hainan Province, at 2:46am on Tuesday, marking the official commencement of the new air route from Haikou to Abu Dhabi.
The inaugural flight also marked the province’s first international air route to the Middle East. Operated by Hainan Airlines, it utilizes the A330 aircraft and will operate every Tuesday and Saturday.
The outbound flights will depart at 2:30am and have an estimated local arrival time of 7:25am in Abu Dhabi. The return flights, HU764, will depart from Abu Dhabi at 5:40pm local time and are expected to land in Haikou at 5am the following day.
It is anticipated that the new air route will significantly boost cooperation between Hainan and the United Arab Emirates in the fields of the economy, culture and tourism.
