The thin-film transistor (TFT) is a semiconducting switch that controls the on-off of the current field by applying different voltages and is one of the most critical semiconductor elements. The most widespread application of thin-film transistors is currently used in LCD/OLED/QLED/Mini-LED/Micro-LED and other flat panel display panel manufacturing. In the display panel, TFT is the most basic and important component in the realization of pixel addressing, pixel driving, pixel compensation, timing control (GOA, DEMUX…), and other functions. TFT application scenarios also include core chips for advanced experiments such as next-generation printed OLED/QLED displays, next-generation electrowetting microfluidic chips, new photoelectric/pressure/biological/chemical sensors that meet different application scenarios, smart IoT components and bionic electronic products, etc.

有机薄膜晶体管(OTFT,organic thin film transistor)本质仍是一种场效应晶体管,其基本结构和功能与传统的薄膜晶体管相同,不同的是其核心材料采用了有机半导体。与现有的无机薄膜晶体管如非晶硅或多晶硅TFT相比,OTFT具有以下特点:加工温度低(一般在180℃以下);本真柔性,适用于柔性器件制造;材料来源广泛,同时工艺过程大大简化,成本大幅度降低;适合大面积加工且环境友好。
The organic thin film transistor (OTFT) is a field-effect transistor using organic semiconductors in its channel. The basic structure and function of organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) are basically the same as those of traditional thin-film transistors (TFTs). Compared with existing inorganic TFTs such as amorphous silicon or polysilicon TFTs, OTFTs have the following advantages: low processing temperature (generally below 180°C), true flexibility, which is highly suitable for flexible device manufacturing, a wide range of material sources and simultaneously with a greatly simplified process, greatly reduced costs; suitable for large-area processing, and at the same time environmentally friendly.

SmartKem holds a family of commercially available and patented organic electronic materials (as shown in Figure 2) such as organic semiconductors, organic dielectric material, organic interface modifiers et, al. that can be easily obtained in high quality and relatively large quantity (as shown in Figure 3). As one of the most promising organic semiconductors with high stability and other excellent performances, SmartKem’s TRUFLEX® is used for a wide range of applications, including display backplanes, bio/chemical/photo sensors and logic circuits et, al. SmartKem pays more attention to the balanced development of mature materials and advanced technology, and also has developed a mature technical process and a complete supply chain that can be easily used for manufacturing many kinds of prototype or practical products based on passive/active matrix device.
