What types of Non-Criminal Record Report are available for employment purposes?
For work permit applications in China, Chinese authorities accept two types of criminal record certificates:

Category 1: If the report is issued by your home country’s embassy in China, Non-Criminal Record Report is acceptable.
第1类：如果报告是由贵国驻华大使馆出具的，则可以接受无犯罪记录报告。
Category 2: If the report is issued out of China or applied at applicant’s home country, the Non-Criminal Record Report issued by the public security bureau or the judicial authority of the applicant’s home country is acceptable. The Non-Criminal Record Report should be authenticated by the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in their home country.
第2类：在境外出具或者在申请人所在国申请的，可以接受公安局或者申请人所在国司法机关出具的无犯罪记录报告。无犯罪记录报告应当经中国驻本国使领馆认证。
For those who are applying for it overseas:
对于海外申请者：
Step 1. You need to go back to your own country to apply from local police station or citizen administration bureau.
第一步. 你需要回自己的国家向当地的警察局或公民管理局申请。
Step 2. Go to China Embassy and get it notarized. Usually, it’s easier to get the official notarized record when you have a translated Chinese version.
第二步. 去中国大使馆办理公证手续。通常，当你有一个中文译本的时候，就更容易得到正式的公证记录。
Some China Embassies overseas only accept the documents from the local notary bureau, if so, you have to have the documents notarized at local notary bureau first, then go to the China Embassy to have it notarized again.
有些驻外使馆只接受当地公证局的文件，如果接受，必须先到当地公证局公证，然后再去中国大使馆公证。
Step 3. In some countries, the local notary bureau offers Non-Criminal Record Report service and China Embassy notary service together, it’s convenient to have it done in a place.
