从word sketch选项里可以查看该动词的施事和受事，就是看一看做主语、宾语的名词是什么类别；还可以查看相似词（similar word）和例句（examples）。把7个动词分别输入，统计出主语、宾语名词出现的频率。因为有些词复现率太高，统计结果并不尽人意。怎么办呢？这个时候双解词典就大显身手了。常用的有《英美法律术语辞典（英汉双解）》（张法连，2014）、《英美法律术语双解》（张法连，2016）；电子版有《朗文法律词典》（英）（科尔森，2002），以及在线的法律英语学习平台 ，还有各方高能的百度、Google（国内Google终于能用了，耶！），选几本权威的，查一查、比一比。过程是有些复杂，篇幅有限，在此不便一一展示，仅把结果做个分享（其实方法更重要）。
1. Abolish，“To do away with wholly. Applies particularly to things of a permanent nature, such as institutions, usages, customs, as the abolition of slavery.” Cf. The Publisher’s Editorial Staff, Black’s Law Dictionary, abridged 6th edition, P. 3，West Publishing Co. (1991). Abolish 有两个释义（1） [abandon，discard]：取消, 全部丢弃，主要用于法律、习惯、制度、传统。 (2) [abrogate]：宣布无效，废除现行的宪法等。所以, abolish主要指完全废除制度、风俗、习惯等长期存在的事物，如 to abolish slavery 废除奴隶制；to abolish ignorance 废除无知。
例： Should the death penalty be abolished? 应该废除死刑吗？
2. Abrogate, “To annul or repeal an order or rule issued by a subordinate authority；to repeal a former law by legislative act, or by usage.” Id. P.4. 主要指对下属机构签发的命令、规则的废除，或经立法废除法规或习俗等，abrogate用法比较正式，主要指官方的正式废除。如：abrogate certain privileges 废除某些特权。
3. Annul, “To annul is either to end something existing or to declare that it never really existed.” Cf. The Editors of the Reader’s Digest; Use the Right Word, P.665, The Reader’s Digest Association Proprietary Ltd. (1971). Annul主要指终止某事务的存在或宣布其无效或从未真正存在过，如：annul the marriage 解除婚姻。
例：If you want to hold meetings with us, you must first annul the Northern Limit Line. 如果你想要和我们会晤，必须先撤除北方限界线。
4. Avoid，“To set aside, to make null.” Cf. Dictionary of Law (6th edition), Beijing: Law Press, 2002. P.35. 宣布(判决、抗辩等)无效；使无效；废止（契约），撤销，to avoid a contract 使合同无效。
5. Rescind，“With respect to a contract, for one or more parties to end it.” Cf. Daphne Duke-low, The Dictionary of Canadian Law, P.916, Thomson Professional Publishing Canada (1991). “To make void by the same or by a superior authority.” Cf. Linda Picard Wood, J. D.，Merriam Webster’s Dictionary of Law, P.427，Meniam-Webster, Incorporated, Springfield, Massachusetts (1996). 由此可见，rescind常用于合同的撤销，以及经同级或上级机构予以撤销或废除规定等，如：rescind a contract 撤销合同，rescind an agreement撤销合约等。
6. Revoke，“To annul or make void by recalling or taking bake.” Cf. The Publisher’s Editorial Staff, Black’s Law Dictionary，abridged 6th edition, P.915, West Publishing Co. (1991). Revoke主要是以收回或撤销以往授予或准予事项的形式，予以废除或废止，或废除遗嘱效力，如to revoke a charter 撤销宪章, to revoke a decree废止法令。
例: He had his driving license revoked. 他被吊销了驾驶执照。
7. Repeal, “To abrogate an existing law by legislative act.” Cf. Bryan A. Gamer, Black’s Law Dictionary, 7th edition, P. 1301, West Group (1999). Repeal主要指撤销立法机关通过的协议、法案或法律等，如：to repeal an amendment废除一项修正案。
例：In 1933, Congress passed the 21st Amendment which repealed the Prohibition Amendment of 1919, thus making the sale, distribution, and use of alcohol legal once again. (教材内容，小伙伴们自己翻译)。
P.S, 除了《大纲》里的这7个动词，另外还有annihilate, abate，cancel也都有“废止、废除”之意，小伙伴们可以自行查一下。这些词主要是用法习惯上有差异，如果受事客体一样，那就是施事主体有所侧重，或者意义略有不同。如上面提到的to avoid a contract和rescind a contract。
