【「请转法轮」就是要认真实修佛法,让佛法融入你的身心】/海涛法师
《普贤十大愿王》:六者请转法轮,七者请佛住世,八者常随佛学。这个是属于智慧的部份。
「请转法轮、请佛住世」——我们希望佛不要离开,佛对我们的加持不要断掉。而且我们还要去实践——所以要「常随佛学」,要跟着佛陀的脚步去实践。
所谓「请转『法』轮」,那各位就要去实修。这个法是「针对烦恼的」,这个法是「针对众生的」,佛陀所讲的每一个法,都跟众生以及跟烦恼,跟帮助众生成佛,跟世界都有关係。
就像你诵《地藏经》,《地藏经》跟十方诸佛、世间的所有神明——包括苗稼神、河神…都有关係,包括地狱道、三途苦都有关係。因为整部《地藏经》是为了帮助所有六道众生都能够发菩提心的,能够从皈依三宝、孝顺父母、深信因果来发菩提心的。
所以你在诵《地藏经》,你要生起与地藏王菩萨一样的心,你念《地藏经》的时候就可以影响整个缅甸,四方八面各一百公里都有地藏菩萨的加持。所以我们「请转法轮」,就是希望佛菩萨对我们的说法加持永远不离开。
所以一个人证得初果,乃至初发菩提心,就像观音菩萨在初地的时候,听到千光王静住如来念大悲咒,他融入了,当下就从初地跳到八地空性的菩萨。为什麽可以那麽快?因为他那个心是融入一切,也融入于佛,也融入于众生,所以他念一遍大悲咒就可以超越一大阿僧祇劫的修行。
所以我想,各位如果你想修行要快,那就是「你的执着要放下」。
所以我劝各位,每天再怎麽忙,至少要有一个钟头,是跟佛菩萨加持的时间,专心的在这边念经。
但是,就像我昨天开玩笑,有些女居士:「等一下,我要去念经,等我念完再骂你!」
那你念经做什麽呢?你念经之前本来是生气的,你念完经就是吃完药,就不会生气了,那才有用吧!
「等我念完…」,那时候你执着了,执着念经有功德,好像在交差一样,在打卡,「念完我去找我老公骂一骂!」那你念经做什麽呢?
所以我们念经、打坐、做修行,就是因为我知道我的烦恼恶业来了,我没有能力去处理这个事情,所以我赶快以这个惭愧心,祈求诸佛菩萨的加持,来念经、来做早课、来做晚课。
各位你做早课在那边站了一个多钟头,做晚课在那边念了一个多钟头,然后下来的时候还是「如如不动」,还是那些很讨人厌的烦恼,很讨人厌的个性,那请问你这个早课晚课要做什麽?
这个「课」,它就是你要完全的融入,《大悲咒》是什麽意思,《十小咒》什麽意思,《十大愿王》什麽意思?
所以我现在在解释《十大愿王》,各位每天都在念,你要去观修,然后真实的这样去做,那你才可以改变。打个比方,就像我现在身体很痛,肚子拉肚子,去急诊,「医生啊!你赶快给我打点滴!」,点滴一打不痛了,这个叫「请转法轮」,不离开法,不离开三宝,特别是佛法。
佛法僧三宝最重要的是「法宝」,念阿弥陀佛是要得到阿弥陀佛的悲愿、思想,而不是说执着在这个佛号上面,如果执着在佛号上面,当然也有一点福报,可能会让你下品往生,但是你得不到一个解脱的智慧或是菩提心,这样对念佛的人吃亏了,因为他就是希望赶快成就阿弥陀佛的功德,可以真实像阿弥陀佛一样的去帮助所有生命。所以请转法轮,各位就是要很认真。
就像《般若心经》,大家都会背,但是你每天一上车或睡觉前就要思惟一次,你每天至少要半个钟头一个钟头,甚至越多钟头,一直去让佛法融入你的身心,去思惟。
就像各位今天把饭菜吃下去了,你要咬,你要消化,然后吸收对你身体有用的养分,那你身体才会有体力,并且把不好的排出去,这样才有用。
所以,你念一部《心经》,你念《地藏经》,你拜八十八佛,八十八佛每一尊佛是什麽样的功德,可以帮助众生消除什麽样的业障,这些你都要去瞭解。

【”To Request the Turning of the Dharma Wheel” is to Practice Buddhism Earnestly and Merge the Dharma into Your Body and Mind.】/Master Hai Tao
The Ten Great Vows of Samantabhadra:
No.6 To request the turning of the Dharma wheel
No.7 To request the Buddha to remain in this world
No.8 To constantly follow the Buddha’s teachings
These three vows are categorized into the part of wisdom. On the one hand requesting the turning of the Dharma wheel and the Buddha to remain in this world are our ways to pray for the Buddha’s forever staying and the Buddha’s ceaseless blessing, but on the other hand we must put the Buddha’s teachings into practice. Therefore, it’s essential to constantly follow the Buddha’s teachings and the Buddha’s footsteps from words to deeds.
The so-called “requesting the turning of the Dharma wheel” is to request the Dharma which is subject to afflictions and to all sentient beings. Thus, all instructions from the Buddha are closely related to creatures, vexation, helping the beings to become Buddhas, and making the world better.
Take reciting “The Sutra of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha’s Fundamental Vows” for example. “The Sutra of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha’s Fundamental Vows” has close links with the Buddhas from ten directions, all the worldly deities and spirits including the God of Crops, the God of Rice, and River God, and the suffering three paths below.
“The Sutra of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha’s Fundamental Vows” is to help all the sentient beings of the Six Realms to generate Bodhicitta. From taking refuge in the Three Jewels, being filial to parents, and thoroughly believing in cause-and-effect, one could aspire to Bodhicitta.
Therefore, while reciting “The Sutra of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha’s Fundamental Vows,” you’ve got to initiate the same heart as Ksitigarbha’s. Thus, your chanting “The Sutra of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha’s Fundamental Vows” could influence the whole Myanmar because of the blessing of Ksitigarbha within one hundred miles of all directions.
Hence, our requesting the turning of the Dharma wheel is to hope that Buddhas and Bodhisattvas not only enrich blessing to our Dharma talks but also stay with us forever.
One who has attained the Sotapanna stage, or even generated Bodhicitta for the first time is just like Avalokitesvara. When Avalokitesvara reached the first of the ten Bhumis (stage of Bodhisattva), listening to the Great Compassion Mantra from Thousand Light King Dwelling Stillness Buddha, he merged into the mantra and then went straight to the eighth Bhumi from the first Bhumi. Why could he reach the eighth stage so fast? It’s all because his mind merged within everything, merged within the Buddha, and merged within the sentient beings as well. Consequently, he recited the Great Compassion Mantra only once, and then he could transcend one-asamkhyeya-kalpa’s cultivation.
Therefore, if you crave for efficient Buddhist practice, you’ve got to “let go the clinging.” Nevertheless, no matter how busy you are on a daily basis, one hour at least should be taken to get blessed from the Buddha and to recite the Sutras attentively.
However, before chanting the Sutras, just like what I joked about yesterday, some lay women said: “Wait a minute, I go reciting the Sutras first. I’ll come back scolding you after finishing my chanting.” Then what is the meaning for you to recite the Sutras? If you get mad before chanting the Sutras, your anger should be released after chanting the Sutras as taking the medicine. Then I’d say your chanting works.
“Waiting for me to finish chanting…” It’s a clingy affection to recite the Sutras as a way to accumulate merits as if getting the job done or punching a time clock. “I’ll go scolding my husband after completing reciting.” Then what is it for to recite the Sutras?
Therefore, reciting the Sutras, meditating, and cultivating our conduct are all for dealing with negative karma through afflictions. Lacking the ability to antidote them, I ardently take the ashamed mind to pray for the Buddhas’ and Bodhisattvas’ blessing and to recite the Sutras and practice the morning and evening recitation. After spending more than one hour on the morning recitation, and repeating the process again in the evening, you are still “in the state of inaction” with annoying afflictions and annoying characteristics. Then what on earth do you practice the morning and evening recitation for?
The “recitation” is designed for you to melt in the Dharma thoroughly.
What is “The Great Compassion Mantra” all about? What does “Ten Small Mantras” mean? What can we learn from “Ten Great Vows?” I am now explaining the Ten Great Vows for you.
Although you recite it every day, how do you cultivate visualization and then put it into practice? Only by finding out the answer can you really change yourself.
For example, I got severe pains in my body with an urgent diarrhea, so I prayed : Doctor, I need to get an intravenous drip desperately. No sooner had I got an intravenous fluid than the pain was gone. This is so-called “to request the turning of the Dharma wheel.” Always stay with the Dharma and never leave the Three Jewels, especially the Dharma. Dharma is the most essential among all.
Chanting Amitabha Buddha is to attain Amitabha Buddha’s merciful vows and thoughts. This is exactly the key point. It’s the thoughts of Amitabha Buddha that you’d like to achieve, not the name of Amitabha Buddha you cling on. Clinging on the Buddha’s name also offers you some merits to be reborn into the lowest class in the Pure Land. However, there is no way you could attain wisdom helping to liberate or aspire to Bodhicitta. It’s such a big loss for the one chanting the Buddha’s name because he hopes to achieve the merits of Amitabha as soon as possible and to be just like Amitabha Buddha to help all the sentient beings.
Therefore, to request the turning of the Dharma wheel is to cultivate diligently and earnestly. “The Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra” is the one everyone is able to learn by heart. However, you’d better contemplate it whenever getting into a car or before going to bed every day. You have to spend at least half an hour, one hour, or even more hours soaking your mind and body into the Dharma and deliberating the Dharma profoundly. It’s just like when you have the meal, after chewing and digesting, you absorb the useful nutrition to gain the energy your body needs and then discharge the harmful waste. It works this way.
While reciting “The Heart Sutra,” “The Sutra of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha’s Fundamental Vows”, or worshipping the Eighty-eight Buddhas, what merits does each of the eighty-eight Buddhas have, and what karmic obstacles could each help eliminate for the beings? The issues mentioned above are the things you’ve got to realize.
