九江位于江西省北部，是赣、鄂、湘、皖四省毗邻之地，处在万里长江与千里京九铁路的交汇点上。面积1.88万平方公里，人口500万，中心城区人口80万。九江是一座有着2200多年历史的名城，境内山川秀美，景色怡人，集名山（庐山）、名江（长江）、名湖（鄱阳湖）、名城（共青城）、名洞（龙宫洞）、名院（白鹿洞书院）于一体，是闻名遐迩的旅游城市。

历史悠久
春秋时期为“吴头楚尾”，属吴之西境，楚之东境。九江作为行政区划始于秦朝，秦始皇统一中国设36郡就有九江郡。汉高帝六年(公元前201年) 车骑大将军灌婴戍守时筑九江城。九江在晋代是“七省通衢，来商纳贾”的通都大邑，在唐代是江南一大商港，明清时为中国“三大茶市”、“四大米市”之一，第二次鸦片战争后开辟为对外通商口岸，现为江西唯一的沿江对外开放港口城市。

In Jin Dynasty, Jiujiang was big commercial city which combined seven provinces and received travelers and businessmen from all overChina。 It was once the largest business port in South of Yangtze River during Tang Dynasty。 And later in Ming and Qing Dynasty, it was one of the three Tea Markets and one of the four Rice Markets of China。 Jiujiang has been an open port, accessible to the outside world as one ofChina’s trade ports after the Second Opium War and is now the only port in Jiangxi province open to foreign trade。

区位独特
九江位于八百里鄱阳湖、五千里京九、万里长江交汇处，在全国经济格局中处于承东启西、引南接北、交流中转的位置。水陆空交通便利。九江港是国家一类开放口岸,长江岸线152公里，可通航5000吨级船舶，并可直达香港、日本、新加坡等100多个国家和地区。京九、武九、合九、铜九、昌九城际高速等五条铁路，福银（昌九）、杭瑞（九景）、合九、武九、大广（武吉）等五条高速公路都在九江交汇。到庐山机场和昌北机场分别在半小时和一小时的车程之内。100多年前，孙中山先生在《建国方略》中指出：“九江将成为江西富省之唯一商埠，中国南北铁路之一中心”。日本协力事业团专家经过实地考察，在最终报告书上指出：九江处在中国的要冲位置，未来的形象是“经济交流中转城市”。

生态优良
九江是中国优秀旅游城市、全国园林绿化城市、中国魅力城市、中国十大特色休闲城市、中国吸引客商投资之最具潜力城市。森林覆盖率达54.92%。人均淡水资源是全国的100倍。全市水面达500余万亩，全省95%以上的水域通过鄱阳湖经九江湖口流入长江，鄱阳湖53%的水面在九江，号称亚洲第一、世界第二的土坝水库—庐山西海面积达46万亩，另有万亩以上湖泊10个、千亩以上31个。九江因此素有“江南鱼仓”之称，有鱼类118种，名贵的有中华鲟等国家一级保护动物。九江还有中国第一个世界文化景观庐山，世界最大的候鸟保护区吴城，生态条件十分优越的修河、庐山西海，中外著名的云居山、石钟山、东林寺、白鹿洞书院等。

文化厚重
九江自古以来“读书成风、科举成名、作家成派、学者成林、仕宦成群、著述成山、志士成仁、佛道成宗、青铜成王”，蕴藏着蔚为大观的山水文化、清新隽永的田园文化、源远流长的隐逸文化、神秘深奥的宗教文化、声名远播的书院文化、异彩纷呈的民俗文化、厚重深远的商业文化、催人奋进的红色文化。九江是中国田园诗的诞生地、山水诗的策源地、山水画的发祥地，历代1500多位名人在九江赋诗4000多首，《三国演义》和《水浒传》中很多传奇故事都在九江演绎，中国民族管弦乐《春江花月夜》根据原创于九江的《浔阳曲》改编而成。中国最早的书院义门书院在九江市德安县，白鹿洞书院居中国古代四大书院之首。东林寺是佛教净土宗的发祥地，被胡适先生称之“代表佛教中国化、中国佛教化的趋势”，庐山“一山藏五教”，中国佛教协会四任会长与云居山真如寺有关。
